First summer weekend

The two or three of you who actually peek at this blog know that I pretty much spend summer weekends on Cape Cod. Good news is lots of riding and a great loop from Brewster to Provincetown and back or Truro and back. Bad news is not much vertical, so I'm always slower than my Boston riding buddies on the hills by the end of the summer.  Oh well, the price you pay for being able to take a post ride dip in the Bay after a 40 or 60 or 80 miler.  Glad that summer's here.  Got in a couple of great misty, foggy, slightly wet rides this weekend. Here're are some pix.

Cape Cod’s Beautiful Back Roads: Gull Pond

Img_0471

One of my favorite roads on the way to Provincetown is a little known way called Gull Pond Rd. Most riders heading to Truro and beyond follow either the PMC or M/S routes, which take riders along the ocean in Wellfleet and then onto Long Pond Road and back to Route 6.

Want a sweeter ride? Stay on Ocean View. Pass Long Pond Rd.  In a mile and half take a left on Gross Hill Rd. (there’s a stop sign) and then in a little less than a mile turn right onto Gull Pond.

The rollers and curves last only a couple of miles, but it’s like riding waves on your road bike. You’ll swerve your way down to Route 6 closer to P-town than the Long Pond approach gets you. From there you can either stay on the highway or in half a mile cross and turn left on Coles Neck, which will take you toward the bay side with beautiful back road options to either Wellfleet or Truro. Enjoy. Hope to see you on the road.

Three great pictures from the Tour de France

Well, besides winning seven Tours, another thing Lance accomplished was to get America's mainstream press to pay attention to one of the world's greatest sporting events. Found these in the Boston Globe.
